Women's Water Polo Takes Second in Reno Tournament!
The Don's Women's Water Polo team is off to a great start to their year following an impressive showing at the Silver State Shootout in Reno this past weekend. The Dons' dominated in pool play defeating Del Oro 7-0 and Ashland 12-1, but lost in the Championship game to Albuquerque (N.M.) by a 8-1 score.

Women's Water Polo Places 10th out of 48 Team in Rocklin!
The girls water polo team were at the Sierra Shootout on September 19 and 20th in Rocklin, California. Acalanes placed 10th out of 48 teams. Team Recognition went to Nicole Hughes and Kelly Jenkins-Stark. Michelle Roses added to the wins with 7 goals during the tournament. Lindsay MacFee and Lindsay Talbot made over 20 saves. Acalanes opens their DFAL season at Miramonte today with a 5:00pm Match.
The men's Water polo team also opens their DFAL season today with a 6:00pm game. Read the feature story about the Don's from the Contra Costa Times dated 9/24 here.
Don's Comebacks Not Enough in Water Polo Loses to Miramonte!
Both the Men's and Women's Teams lost their DFAL openers yesterday in hard fought games at Miramonte. In both games, Miramonte built up big leads and the Don's came back to make it interesting down the stretch, with the final in the Men's game 7-4 and even closer finish in the Women's game at 8-6. Weekend Activity for Don's Teams!
The Women's Water Polo team will play today and Saturday in the Contra Costa Invitational at C.C. College campus. They play California (1:30pm) and Novato (5:10pm) today. The Cross Country teams will travel to Angles Camp to run in the Frogtown Invitational race beginning at 9:00am Saturday.
Women's Water Polo Finishes Fourth in CC Invitational!
The Lady Dons came in 4th place out of a field of 24 at the Contra Costa Invitational which took place at Contra Costa College in San Pablo. On Friday 9/26, the Lady Dons beat California 12-7 and beat Novato 4-2. On Saturday, 27th, the Lady Dons lost to Las Lomas 5-2 and Clayton Valley 10-7. The next league game will be Wednesday, October 1 vs. College Park. JV game at 4:00pm and Varsity at 5:00pm.

Don's Men's Water Polo Blows Away College Park, Women Lose!
Acalanes scored seven 4th-quarter goals to cap a lopsided 19-4 victory over College Park Wednesday night. Jay Warner (4 goals), and Steve Andron and San Schragal each had three goals in the win. The Women ran into a very tough College Park team (9-1, 2-0) and were shutout by a 8-0 margin.
Don's Men and Women Sweep in Water Polo Action Over Alhambra!
Acalanes took both the Men's and Women's matches on Wednesday from Alhambra in varsity Water Polo. The Men won 13-4, and the Women won by a 12-7 score. Mike Ferrif scored 4 goals and Thomas Dawson, and Jay Warner scored 2 goals each. Phil Jones had 5 saves. In the Women's game, Nicole Hughes had 5 goals, followed by Michelle Roses with 4 goals and Lizzy Flower with two. Lindsay Talbot had 4 saves in goal for the Don's. The Women will play in the Western State High School Championships this weekend in Modesto. Both team will play Campolindo in DFAL play next Wednesday.
Women's Water Polo Fundraiser Car Wash Sunday!
Bring out your dirty cars this Sunday, 10/26 to the Gas Station on the corner of Mt. Diablo and Brown Avenue for a fundraiser for the Women's Water Polo team. The Lady Don's will wash cars between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
Acalanes Women's Water Polo Has Big Win Over Las Lomas!
Acalanes Women's Water Polo team (13-10, 2-3 DFAL), had a big win against Las Lomas 8-5 on Wednesday. Great defensive playing by the entire team. The goals were scored by Nicole Hughes 4,Jenna Lambert 2, Gwen Stetch 1 and Leigh Winters 1. Next Tuesday's final DFAL game is at home against Northgate. Game time is 5:00pm.

Women Advance in NCS Water Polo!
The Women's Water Polo team (8th- seed) beat the #9 seeded Las Lomas 4-3 in the first round of the NCS playoffs Saturday to advance. It was an exciting and close game. The team will attempt to keep their late-season push but will have a tough challenge when they next face the #1-seed Monte Vista on Wednesday November 15th at 5:45pm at Miramonte. Come out and support our Lady Don's.
Acalanes Women's Water Polo Falls to #1 Seed Monte Vista in NCS!
The Don's Women's Water Polo team fell to #1-seed Monte Vista in the second round of the NCS Playoffs Wednesday by a 11-4 final. The team had a successful year and finished with a 15-11 overall record and tied for third in the DFAL. In th4e NCS playoff game, Monte Vist jumped to a big lead and held the Don's off the scoreboard until senior Nicole Hughes broke out with four goals in the final quarter to keep the game interesting in what will be her final game for the Acalanes. Congratulations to Dan Bledsoe and his entire program for a great year.

Don's Recognized by Contra Costa Times Annual Fall Teams!
The Contra Costa Times published their annual "All-Times" teams for the Fall Sports season for the 2003 season, and the Don's received several top honors including Top Women's Golfer and Top Women's Golfing Coach honors. Also making top teams were Acalanes student/athletes in Women's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Women's Water Polo, Men's Water Polo and second-team honors when to two Don's Football players. Read the capsules from the Contra Costa Times dated 1/10 below and congratulations to Coach Tim Scott and our Acalanes Student/athletes for being recognized for their outstanding efforts.

| Posted on Sat, Jan. 10, 2004 All-Times girls water polo team Nicole Hughes • SCHOOL: Acalanes • POSITION: Driver • YEAR: Junior • THE SKINNY: Hughes was the driving force behind the Dons on both ends of the pool. Offensively, she scored 83 goals and had 14 assists. Defensively, she snagged 96 steals and prevented 41 shots. Oh, and she drew 21 kickouts. • WHAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW: Hughes and Heather Stuart were rival goalies on their Golden Bear club team before Hughes switched to the field. |
