Men's Lacrosse Feature Article 5/5/06
Acalanes lacrosse team walks to show support

A sea of blue jerseys and lacrosse sticks will punctuate the crowd at the 12th annual Angel Adventure Walk in San Francisco, when members of the Acalanes High School lacrosse team walk to show their support and appreciation of their junior varsity coach and 1999 Acalanes alum Matt Lynn, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.

More than 30 team members are walking in solidarity with Lynn.

Lynn, coach for the junior varsity team, was diagnosed with a brain tumor last August and has continued to coach at the Lafayette high school.

"The coaches stress team accountability and commitment. Coach Lynn leads by example -- he works 30 hours a week, has been at all the practices and games despite the rain and continues the chemotherapy regimen prescribed by his doctors.

"The boys love him and are excited to be able to show their support for him," said parent Myra Becker.

Acalanes Mens Lacrosse will be joining thousands of walkers at the walk through Golden Gate Park on May 6.

Lynn began playing lacrosse for the Acalanes club team before it was a high-school sponsored sport, and also played for UC Santa Barbara.

Men's Lacrosse Loses Heartbreaker to O'Dowd in DVLL Opener!

The Men's Lacrosse home opener was rescheduled to Foothill H.S. on Wed., 3/2 7:30pm due to a lack of lighting (contractor cut the lines when demolishing the "away" bleachers). The Dons met their match against a well-skilled Foothill varsity squad losing 14-3. AHS goals by Tyler Rey and Sam Briggs. Tyler Norton had 7 saves in goal for the Dons.  Fast, efficient start by Foothill put AHS in a hole early (10-3 at half). Co-captain Tyler Rey suffered a strained PCL of the right knee late in the 3rd quarter and will need to rest the injury for 4-6 weeks.

The Dons rebounded less than 24 hours later to compete well against their 1st league opponent, again on the road at Bishop O'Dowd Thurs., 3/3rd @ 4:30pm.  With no lighting and finishing in a steady drizzle, O'Dowd possessed a significant home field advantage.  The Dons rallied back from a 7-5 deficit in the 4th quarter to tie the score.   With Tyler Norton making clutch saves down the stretch and the defense stepping up at crucial times, O'Dowd tallied the winning goal with Don's 2 men down (penalties) with less than 3 minutes to go. Quite a turnaround from the previous game at Foothill with each player providing major contributions. Acalanes scoring was well spread amongst attackmen and midfielders with Sam Briggs (2), Jon Pagan and Sam Nepp leading the way.   Norton ended with 10 saves.

The Men's JV was successful twice during the first week of Lacrosse beating Foothill 5-3 and O'Down 3-2.  A group of freshman graduated from the Lamorinda club Lacrosse team to Acalanes this season. They have played together for several years and bring their knowledge of the game and experience to perform well thus far at the high school level.

Men's Lacrosse Win Thriller in Nonleague Action 10-9 in OT!

The Don's won their home opener Tuesday night 10-9 vs. San Marin HS (Novato) scoring the winning goal with 5 seconds remaining in OT by senior Andy Rich! This following a roller coaster 4th quarter with the tying goal scored as time expired in regulation by San Marin on a deflection off an AHS' defenseman's foot to even the score at nine.

Tyler Norton (senior) had 12 saves in goal. The Don's scoring was led by Randy Rich with 4 goals and 1 assist and junior Sam Briggs with 2 goals and 5 assists. Junior Luke Musser played an inspiring all around game winning many face-offs and contributing 2 goals and 2 assists. Sam Fivey and freshman Sam Nep rounded-out the goal scoring with one apiece and Jimmy Jun had one assist.  So all three Sam's (on the varsity roster) contributed mightily!   The next home game is this Friday vs. Las Lomas. JV @ 5:30 and Varsity @ 7pm. Next week's games include a road game vs. much improved and league favorite Monte Vista followed by De La Salle at home next Friday, 3/18th.
