Swimming Preview 5/13/06
• DFAL swimming championships, Saturday, noon --

League bragging rights will be on the line as swim teams from the DFAL congregate at the Soda Aquatic Center in Moraga. On the boys side, Campolindo is the team to beat. Aside from winning last season's DFAL championship, the Cougars are riding a ton of momentum after their slim victory over Bellarmine-San Jose at the NCS/CCS Challenge. Northgate and Miramonte should be in the mix as well. The Matadors are the ones to beat on the girls side. Behind the likes of backstroker Heather White and butterflier Kate Ure, Miramonte has been tough to stop. This is the final tune-up for those swimmers headed to next week's North Coast Section championship meet.

Men's Swimming NCS Championships Summary 5/20/06

It was an impressive performance by the Acalanes Don's Men's Aquatics team  in taking 3rd place at last weekend's North Coast Championship swim meet  competing against the 120 teams that make up NCS swimming. There were standout  performances by Senior Shane Tusup (2nd in 100 backstroke, 3rd in 200  freestyle), Junior Nick Ferrif (2nd in 100 breaststroke), and Sophomore Matt Boone  (3rd in 100 backstroke, 8th in 100 butterfly).

Making the consolation finals and scoring points for the team were Steve  Andron, 200 freestyle, Joe Curley, 200 Individual Medley and, 100 breaststroke,  Robert Graves, 100 breaststroke. However, it was the relays that were the  true strength of the team placing 2nd in both the 200 medley relay and the 400  freestyle relay, and 5th in the 200 freestyle relay.

Swimming on these relay teams were Steve Andron, Joe Curley, Shane Tusup,  Nick Ferrif, Matt Boone, Robert Graves and Sam Stromberg.

Automatic All American times were made by Nick Ferrif, and the medley relay,  and consideration All American times were made Shane Tusup and Matt Boone.

A 3rd place finish is remarkable for the Don's with only one year-round  swimmer on the team while many of the other teams are composed primarily of  year-round swimmers.

The Aquatice girls team made a good showing, finishing 12th. Making  consolation finals were Shannon Pegnin in the 50 freestyle and Gina Panacci in the  200 freestyle, and all 3 relay teams.   Great swimming Don's!!
