Terrific Softball season ends in NCS semifinals
Last night, the Softball team’s story book playoff streak came to an end in the NCS semifinals at the hands of
#1 seeded Bishop O’Dowd HS. The Lady Dons played very well and capped off a great season.

Dons Softball Defeats Albany, Moves on to NCS Semifinals
Acalanes, the #5 seed, avenged a 1-0 preseason loss by defeating the Albany Cougars, the #4 seed, 2-1 in nine innings to advance to the NCS Division III semifinals. Similar to the first encounter, Dons star pitcher Hannah Wilbur and Cougars ace Sara Muse put up a lot of zeros.
Albany struck first with a run in the bottom of the third and held the lead until the Dons tied it up with a run in the top of the sixth thanks to a single by Maile Hoyt, a sacrifice bunt by Grace Lovell and an RBI single by Siena Del Ponte. The Dons then broke the tie in the top of the ninth with a single by Natalie Goepel, then a sac bunt by Del Ponte, followed by a run-scoring single by Tara Wilson. Acalanes made it exciting in the bottom of the ninth, throwing out an Albany runner attempting to score to preserve the victory. Wilbur limited the Cougars to five hits, while striking out 10 batters.Next up the Dons will face defending Division III champion and #1 seed Bishop O'Dowd on Wednesday

The Softball team advances to NCS quarterfinals in extra inning win over Encinal HS
In a tightly contested game, the Dons outlasted Encinal High School of Alameda in extra innings to advance to the second round of the North Coast Section playoffs. Acalanes earned its hard-fought 2-1 victory with a rally in the bottom of the 11th inning. With the game tied 1-1, Maile Hoyt led off the inning with a walk and after an out advanced to second on a clutch single by Natalie Goepel. Courtney Crakow then loaded the bases when the pitcher failed to cleanly field her bunt.
Senior Tara Wilson then worked a walk to force in the game winning run. Senior pitcher Hannah Wilbur was exceptional in the circle, throwing the complete game, allowing only five hits, while striking out 16 opposing batters. The #5 seeded Dons will travel to Albany on Saturday for a matchup with the #4 seeded Cougars

Dons Softball records third consecutive no-hitter to finish their regular season
In the final game of the regular season, a 6-0 win, pitchers Hannah Wilbur and Natalie Goepel combined to toss a no-hit shutout against Dougherty Valley. In the past three games, the Dons' pitchers have not allowed a hit or a run, a string of 19 consecutive hitless innings pitched. The Acalanes offense pounded out 15 hits, including three each by Siena Del Ponte, Tara Wilson and Taylor Gray. The Dons finished the DFAL season with a 9-3 record, good for second place.

Softball's second no-hitter in as many days defeats Miramonte
Senior pitcher Hannah Wilbur and freshman pitcher Natalie Goepel combined for a no-hitter in Acalanes' 8-0 victory over Miramonte. Wilbur tossed three innings, striking out five hitters and Goepel added four shutout innings and six strikeouts. At the plate Wilbur added a double and two RBI, while Goepel chipped in with a single and an RBI. Sophomore Jackie Welland added a pair of singles and two RBIs as the Dons improved their DFAL record to 8-3

Softball's Hannah Wilber tosses a no-hitter
Senior pitcher Hannah Wilbur tossed a no-hitter while striking out 14 batters as the Dons blanked Dougherty Valley 10-0 in a game called after five innings. Wilbur also had a pair of hits and two RBIs, while seniors Courtney Crakow and Tara Wilson contributed two hits and three RBIs and two hits, three runs and two RBIs, respectively. The win raised the Dons' DFAL record to 7-3.

Dons' Offense Quiet in 2-0 Loss to Alhambra
The Acalanes defense allowed two unearned runs early in the game and that's all the Bulldogs needed to post a 2-0 victory and clinch the DFAL title. Senior pitcher Hannah Wilbur was superb, allowing only three hits and one walk over seven innings. The Dons' offense, however, was stifled at the plate, scratching out only three hits and not getting a runner past first base.

Acalanes Softball posts win over Campolindo
The Lady Dons jumped on Campolindo pitching by scoring 6 runs in first two innings then held on for a 6-4 win. Hannah Wilbur was the winning pitcher scattering seven singles over seven innings, allowing only one earned run and went 1 for 3, with 3 RBIs. Taylor Gray went 2 for 3, with a run scored.

Dons Drop Close One in Pitchers' Duel
Las Lomas handed Acalanes a tough 2-0 defeat behind the pitching of senior Hannah Port, who limited the Dons to four hits while striking out 10. The Dons own senior hurler Hannah Wilbur posted an excellent outing as well, allowing only a single earned run on four hits, along with 13 strikeouts. The loss dropped the Dons to 5-2 in league play

Dons Down Dublin with 15-0 Shutout
Sophomore outfielder Siena Del Ponte led the Dons' 17- hit attack with three doubles, a single, four runs and two RBIs as the home team defeated visiting Dublin 15-0. Senior pitcher Hannah Wilbur picked up the victory, allowing only two hits in four innings of work, while freshman Natalie Goepel added an inning of sterling relief. Tara Wilson, Taylor Gray, Hannah Wilbur, Katy Trent and Courtney Crakow all recorded a pair of hits. Acalanes improved its league record to 5-1.

Acalanes Softball Downs Miramonte 11-1
The Dons bounced back from their first league defeat earlier in the week with a resounding 11-1 victory over Miramonte. Senior Hannah Wilbur pitched four strong innings, allowing only one unearned run, three hits, while striking out seven batters. Freshman Natalie Goepel pitched the last inning, retiring all three batters she faced and striking out two. Junior catcher Taylor Gray notched three hits and three RBIs, while sophomore Siena Del Ponte added two hits, including a triple, and senior Tara Wilson rapped two hits, including a double. Seniors Katy Trent and Courtney Crakow each pounded a pair of hits as well.

In a rematch of last year's DFAL co-champs, Acalanes claimed a 4-2 win over Las Lomas to up its league record to 2-0. With two of the league's top pitchers facing off, Dons senior Hannah Wilbur limited the Knights to three hits and one earned run while striking out eight.

Acalanes Softball opens preseason against NCS runnerup Albany
In a battle of two of Division III's top softball teams, 2009 NCS runnerup Albany High School defeated Acalanes 1-0 in the season opener for both teams. In a classic pitchers' duel, senior Hannah Wilbur was the tough luck loser as the Dons allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning. Wilbur allowed only two hits and one walk, while striking out six hitters. The Dons managed five hits but couldn't score off of Albany ace Sara Muse.
