Boys Basketball beats Mt Diablo 66-55 in last game before DFAL league play starts on Jan 6 at Los Lomas.
Leading the way for the Dons were Steve Maze with 24 points, David Gomez with 20 points, 12 rebounds, David Masi with 10 points and Matthew McGoldrick with 5 rebounds.
Boys Soccer starts the New Year with a 2-1 win over Amador Valley.
Two unassisted goals in the second half scored by Nic Carillo and Cameron Carda offset an early first half goal by Amador Valley. Logan Spittler was credited with 3 saves and the team heads into league play on Monday Jan 5 at Dougherty Valley with an 5-3-2 record.

The Varsity Boys basketball falls short in finals.
The Boys lost 40-54 to the 11-0 Cardinal Newman team in the finals of the Sonoma County Classic.

Boys Varsity Basketball takes semi-final win in Sonoma County Classic
The Varsity Boys 59-51 victory over Piner-Santa Rosa puts them into the finals on Wednesday at 4 p.m. versus Analy/Cardinal Newman.
Highlights included: Steve Maze with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals, David Gomez 10 points, 6 steals, and Corey Collins 10 points.
Girls Varsity Basketball is defeated in championship final.
The Girls Varsity was defeated 32-60 in a tough match against Presentation-San Jose.
Ashlie Neff led the Lady Dons with 13 points while Taylor Ewing and Sophie Taylor had 5 and 4 rebounds respectively.
Laura Wagstaff and Ashlie Neff were named to the all-tournament team.
The Girls JV Basketball team finished strong in the Holiday Invitational Tournament going 3-1, finishing up with a 57 - 33 win against Napa High School earning fifth place, in the sixteen team format, with their only loss to eventual champion, Bishop O'Dowd.In their win versus Napa, the Lady Dons displayed a very balanced offensive effort, with all eleven players scoring, a strong transition game and domination on the boards.Congratulations to Kate Parkinson-Morgan for being named to the All -Tournament Team, and Amanda Woods for winning the Tournament's "Sportsmenship" Award.

Acalanes Varsity Boys Basketball win first round game in Sonoma County Classic
The Varsity Boys beat Rancho Cotate -Rohnert Park 67-46 with a stellar first half that saw them outscore their opponent 37-18.
Highlights included Cory Collins with 20 points and 4 rebounds, Steve Maze 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists,,
David Masi 9 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists.
Girls Varsity basketball is victorious in semi-finals of Topaz Division.
The Girls Varsity team beat Heritage 54-46 to move into the finals that will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday Dec 30, against Presentation-San Jose at Heritage H.S.
Highlights of the victory included: Laura Wagstaff with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, Ashlie Neff with 12 points, 6 steals, and 3 assists, Sophie Taylor with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots.
Girls JV basketball split a pair of games in their tournament losing a close one to Bishop O'Dowd 51-58 and beating Notre Dame 40-25.
Defense was the order of the day, as the Lady Dons held Notre Dame to 25 points. The defense was led by Nina Nelson in the steal department and Amanda Woods in blocking shots.

The Girls Varsity basketball team won 48-45 over Bradshaw-Christian in the West Coast Jamboree.Highlights included: Ashlie Neff with 14 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, Sophie Taylor with 9 point and 10 rebounds.

The Girls JV basketball team won there first game today at the Holiday Invitational against Terra Nova 52-38.
Overall, the whole team contributed to this win. Sarah O'Reilly lead the scoring with 14 points and Kate Parkinson-Morgan with 11 points.

Boys Basketball overwhelms San Rafael 73-40.The Varsity Boys evened their season record to 4-4 with a convincing victory over San Rafael, another 4-4 team. The team closed out the last quarter with a convincing 30-11 run.
Highlights for the Dons included Steve Maze with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals, Zach Bloom with 14 points, Corey Collins with 13 points, Jay Fowler with 6 points, 6 assists, 5 steals, 4 rebounds, Tyler Caldwell with 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists.

Dons top Gauchos 1-0 in girls soccer.The girls soccer team completed an undefeated run in the Tri-Valley Classic with a 1-0 victory over El Cerrito on Monday. Ashly Borrelli scored on an assist from fellow senior Sabrina Caires for the only goal of the game. Goalie Angela LaScala-Gruenewald and the Dons defense preserved the shutout.
With a record of 6-2-1 the girls return to action after the break against Dougherty Valley on January 7th.

Lady Dons Soccer takes two games Saturday at Tri-Valley Classic.
The Girls Soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with 3-1 victories over Pinole Valley and Albany on Saturday.6
In the afternoon contest against Pinole Valley, Ashly Borrelli scored first on a pass from Anja Simonsen. Later in the first half Sabrina Caires delivered a nice assist to Anja Simonsen for the Dons second point. Celina Velasco scored on an unassisted long line drive to complete the Dons scoring. Substitutions were frequent and all the girls saw action.
Back on the field at 7:00 pm the Dons showed no signs of fatigue against the Albany Cougars. Sabrina Caires’ offensive skill set was on display as she posted the Dons third hat trick of the season. Her first score was a sharp strike into the net off an Ashly Borrelli feed. Caires’ second goal came on a signature back flick after receiving a powerful cross from Cammie Goodman. The Dons senior scored her final goal with a perfectly placed direct kick. The Dons overall record improved to 5-2-1.
The girls’ final Tri-Valley Classic game is Monday at noon versus the El Cerrito Gauchos.
The Lady Dons Basketball wins consolation final in Walnut Creek Classic by beating College Park 55-47.Leading the team was Kiara Harewood with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals and all-tourney honors. Other Highlights included Emani Harrison with 14 points, Ashlie Neff with 5 assists, 3 steals, Jamie Horn with 2 assists and 3 steals, Laura Wagstaff with 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Lady Dons beat Ygnacio Valley 4-0 in Tri-Valley Classic openerThe Girls Soccer team notched its third shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over Ygnacio Valley Friday afternoon in its first game of the Tri-Valley Classic.
Sophomore Anja Simonsen scored the Dons first goal on an assist from senior Ashly Borrelli. Sabrina Caires’ blast later in the first half resulted in an own goal for the Dons. Junior Rachel Whittom and sophomore Celina Velasco also tallied goals for the 3-2-1 Dons. The girls face Pinole Valley and Albany in Saturday Tri-Valley Classic action.

Lady Dons overwhelm Hercules 61-26 on Friday The Girls Basketball team bounced back with a win over Hercules in the Walnut Creek Classic.
Leading the way for the Lady Dons were Pamela Harrison with 14 points, Kiara Harewood with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, Laura Wagstaff with 12 points, 5 assists, Sophie Taylor 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
The Lady Dons will play in the consolation finals on Saturday Dec 20 at 11:30 am in Northgate HS.
The Boys Basketball team was defeated by San Ramon Valley 49-56.Highlights included Steve Maze with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks, David Masi with 11 points, Corey Collins 15 points, David Gomez 9 points.

The Wrestling Team defeated Miramonte HS 33-30.
Jared Reardon and Conor O’Herin won matches in the 140 and 152 class respectively.
The Girls Basketball team was defeated by Valley Christian 34-59 in the first round of the Walnut Creek Classic at Northgate HS.
Kiara Harewood scored 11 points, with 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Emani Harrison scored 12 points, with 10 rebounds. Acalanes will play Friday, Dec 19, at 6:30p.m. at Northgate

Girls Soccer Team Drops 4-1 Match to AlhambraAlhambra dominated the Dons on Wednesday night winning a physical match 4-1. Sophomore Anja Simonsen scored the Dons lone goal. The loss dropped the Dons DFAL record to 0-2-1. The girls have an opportunity to get back on the winning track this Friday with the start of the Tri-Valley Classic.
The Boys Soccer team defeated Alhambra HS 1-0 to raise their overall record to 4-3-2, and their DFAL record to 1-1-1.
Logan Spittler was credited with 4 saves to preserve the shutout. Ruben Komisar scored the lone goal just before half time.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated California HS 53-40.
Scoring highlights included Steve Maze with 28, David Masi with 9 and Corey Collins with 8.
Steve Maze had 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals while David Gomez was credited with 8 rebounds and Tyler Caldwell with 6 rebounds.
The JV team was defeated, and the Freshman team won by 2 points.

The Boys Soccer team crushed Alameda HS 5-0 to even their overall record at 3-3-2.
Adam Separack scored a goal and had an assist. Nate Sonnenthal, Cameron Carda, and Ruben Komisar each scored a goal.

The Acalanes Wrestling Team had a very successful meet at the Bill Martell Invitational at Northgate High School.The Wrestling Team finished in 10th place overall in a meet that included at least 20 schools. Getting runners-up honors for Acalanes were Robert Royster (191) and Mike Rule (217).
Lady Dons take third place in a 49-31 victory at the Lady Hornet Basketball InvitationalThe Lady Dons beat Logan 49-31 for third place.
Leading the way with scoring were Kiara Harewood 14, Pamela Harrison 10, Jamie Horn 9 and Laura Wagstaff with 7.
Tara Wilson also had 4 assists in this game. Kiara Harewood had 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Jamie Horn had 4 assists and 2 steals and both players were named to the All Tournament team. .
The Varsity Boys Basketball rally to tie in regulation but lose in overtime to Buchanan 66-72Showing great resiliency, Acalanes Boys outscored the Buchanan team 32-19 in the second half to send the game into overtime.
The team's balanced attach had Steve Maze with 15, Corey Collins 13, Jackson 9, David Masi 8, and Zach Bloom 8.

The JV Girls Basketball Team won Friday night's contest against Clayton Valley...69 to 37.The Varsity Lady Dons basketball team were defeated in the semifinals 28-37 by Irvington in the Lady Hornet Invitational in Alameda.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Dons were Pamela Harrison with 10, Kiara Harewood with 8 and Laura Wagstaff with 6. Kiara Harewood and Pamela Harrison grabbed 9 and 5 rebounds respectively.
The Lady Dons will play in the third place game on Saturday at 4:30pm in Alameda.
Varsity Boys Basketball beat Galena-Reno 53-41 in the consolation semi-final round at De La Salle.The balanced scoring highlights included Corey Collins with 13, Steve Maze with 12, Zach Bloom and David Gomez with 8 each.
Girls soccer team looses first game of season to Miramonte 0-3.The Lady Dons soccer team lost its first game of the young season Friday night in front of a supportive, larger than normal home crowd. The defending NCS champion Mats scored in the first five minutes and added two late first half goals. The girls team fought hard, generated a number of scoring opportunities on corner kicks, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Next Wednesday the 2-1-1 Dons return to the turf at Alhambra.
The Boys Varsity Soccer team played Miramonte to a 0-0 draw at Miramonte on Friday bringing their league record to 0-1-1.Logan Spittler was credited with 5 saves in the match.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team was defeated by De La Salle HS in the Chris Vontoure Memorial Classic.
Acalanes held the Spartans to 70 and outscored the green guys in the 4th quarter 15 to 11, as every player saw action in last night's game. The final score ,70 to 38, is no reflection of the amount of heart from the team or pride from the Dons fans as they competed with arguably the best team in the state. Thanks to the coaches, players and dedicated fans who are doing their best during these emotional circumstances of having to deal with a serious medical event to someone in their basketball family and community! Go Dons!
This afternoon Acalanes will play the Galena Grizzlies - Reno at 5:00 pm. Players should plan to meet at school at 3:30 pm. Galena lost to Deer Valley, 79-32, in the early game yesterday. The Grizzlies do have a Nevada State championship title ('06/'07); however, last year's team graduated 9 seniors -- wait, that part sounds familiar.
The JV Boys Basketball team, led by Chris Huber and Bob Barter, overcame a large first half deficit to defeat Northgate HS 57-55 in the John Rhodes Memorial tournament at Acalanes.
The Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated American HS 40-39 in overtime at the Alameda Tournament. They will play in the semifinals at 6:30pm on Friday.
Highlights:
Scoring: Laura Wagstaff 11, Jamie Horn 8, Sydney Cox 7
Others: Kiara Harewood with 20 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots, Jamie Horn had 4 assists and Taylor chipped in with 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Dons Girls Soccer team ties Las Lomas 0-0 in DFAL openerThe Lady Dons remained undefeated after a hard fought draw with DFAL rival Las Lomas. The last time these teams met, the Dons secured an upset victory in the opening round of the 2008 NCS playoffs.
Stiff defense sparked by Callie Goodman, Schuyler Blee, Melissa Cameron, Rachel Whittom and goalkeeper Angela LaScala-Gruenewald kept the Knights off the scoreboard. Cammie Goodman and Ashly Borrelli teamed up on a beautiful direct kick-header that nearly found the back of the net late in the second half.
Next up for the 2-0-1 Dons will be a home game against defending NCS champs Miramonte on Friday night.
The Boys Soccer team was defeated by Las Lomas HS 3-1. Super freshman Dylan Autran scored the lone goal, and Logan Spittler had 6 saves.

Scoring highlights were provided by Sydney Cox with 16, Kiara Harewood with 10 and Ashlie Neff with 9.
Sydney Cox also had 7 rebounds to go along with 2 steals while Ashlie Neff grabbed 4 rebounds and also came up with 2 steals.

First Boosters' Club Meeting of the Year Has Been
Postponed Until Thursday
September 18th!
The 1st Boosters meeting of the year will be held on Thursday September 18th at 7:30pm. The meeting will be held as usual in the Acalanes Cafeteria. The meeting will cover important activities by the Boosters' Club and will have updates from the Board Member Chairs and Team Reps about their respective sports teams. All Boosters Team Reps are expected to participate. Anyone interesting in the Boosters programs is invited to attend.
